The Baccarat Table
The numbers at the ends of the baccarat table indicate the number of players able to take part in the game. A traditional baccarat table has 14 numbers (from 1 to 15). Suffering from its sulphurous reputation, the bad luck number 13 has been banned. You will find that three boxes appear above the various numbers on display. They correspond to the table sections on which to place your bets. You can bet on the player (yourself), on the banker or on a tie.
The Game of Baccarat
In Baccarat, the goal of the game is to get as close to 9 as possible, 9 being the most powerful hand. The dealer is responsible for distributing two closed cards to the player (s) as well as to himself. In some cases, he will have to distribute a third. There may be a maximum of 14 players in the same game. Players are bound to bet on their win, on the dealer's or on a tie. You must determine how you will place your bet and its amount.
Values of Cards in Baccarat
The cards correspond to their nominal value. Aces are worth only one point where the figures (valets, ladies and kings) and the 10 are worth none. When counting points, only the unit number is to be considered. In other words, if a player rolls a 2 and a 9, the cumulative total of his hand would be worth 1 point (11). If he gets a 6 and an 8, his hand would be worth 4 points (14). To put it simply, remove the tens digit after adding (18 = 8, 17 = 7 ...).
How to Win Baccarat?
If the player receives a hand worth 8 or 9 points, he wins (unless the dealer also has a hand of the same value). If the player gets a lower value hand, the dealer may or may not distribute a third card based on the accumulated total. The picking of the third card is conditioned by certain rules. The player will receive a third card if the total of his hand is less than or equal to 5 points. The decision does not belong to the player because only the rules of the game will automatically determine the procedure to follow. Similarly, the dealer will only be able to allocate a third card according to rules described in detail in our specialized section. Whoever has the most powerful hand wins the round.
In baccarat, players have the opportunity to bet on the box 'player' or bet on the box 'banker'. They can also bet on a tie between the player and the banker. You will have to place your bets in the box of your choice before the dealer distributes the cards to the players. In other words, you will have to make a decision before even knowing your hand.
